Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

What airport do I fly into to get to San Miguel de Allende?

The closest airports to SMA are located in Leon/Guanajuato (BJX) and Queretaro (QRO). Both are international airports with regular flights into and out of the area. Travel time from both airports to San Miguel is about 1hr and 30mins. Round trip ground transportation is covered when flying into either of these airports when you purchase a Relocation tour.

Mexico City Airport (MEX) is also accessible however, travel time is roughly 4 hours. The costs of ground transportation to/from Mexico City airport is NOT covered in your Relocation Tour package.

When should I book my international flight?

According to the experts, you can get the best price on airfare to Central America by booking approximately 2-3 months before your travel date but no later than 30 days before your travel date.

IMPORTANT: It is mandatory that you provide us with your travel information no later than 20 days prior to your arrival. This information is required to ensure your airport shuttle service and check-in reservation. Your flight must land in Mexico before 10P on your tour start date.

Is a COVID-19 test required to enter Mexico?

For U.S., Canada and other passport holders: Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your date of arrival. However, if you plan to stay in Mexico for more than 3 months and then return to the United States you will need a passport that expires after your intended return date.

No, you do not need to make hotel reservations. All accommodations are included in the relocation tour experience. If you arrive in Mexico before the Tour check-in date, you can reserve additional nights at CasaELM only for as many days as their availability permits at that time. If no availability exists at CasaELM, you will be responsible to book your own accommodations elsewhere.

When is the last day of the tour?

The tour ends on the stated Checkout date.

Check-out time is 11:00 AM. All belongings will need to be removed from the guest rooms at that time and keys returned to the lockbox outside the room. Guests are permitted to lounge in the common areas as you await your airport transfer from Casa ELM to Leon and Queretaro Airports.

What's is included in the costs of the Relocation tour?

What happens if I want to stay in Mexico after the check-out date?

If you'd like to extend your stay at CasaELM after the Relocation Tour or Vacation package check out ends, you will need to let us know as soon as possible. Depending on their availability, you are more than welcome to extend your stay.

IMPORTANT: If planning to stay in Mexico longer than intended you will need to ensure you do not overstay your visa. This is a government document and you could face fines if caught.

If you overstay your visa, when you arrive at the airport to leave Mexico your boarding pass may be held until you meet with immigration or pay the fine.

Vaccine requirements and recommendations vary based on a number of factors including:

  • Lifestyle

Please consult your physician or a healthcare professional preferably six weeks before your travel date to determine which, if any, vaccinations are appropriate for you.

Can I use my credit/debit card in Mexico?

A large majority of businesses and restaurants take MasterCard and Visa. However, Mexico is a cash-based society with many places only accepting cash. All relocation tour activities are covered with the purchase of your ticket, we do recommend bringing about $500 cash to use for additional leisure activities and dining.

ATM machines are readily available at banks so you can get additional cash if necessary. Using a foreign debit card, a maximum of $250 can be withdrawn from an ATM machine twice a day.  There are ATM fees per transaction when using a foreign debit card at the ATM.

Contact your banking institution to determine if these fees can be reimbursed.

Why do I need to sign a non-compete agreement?

We have worked very hard to build this business, establishing contacts and relationships which we share exclusively with our tour guests. We provide the highest quality tour with the most information, therefore we do not permit guests to come on the tour with intentions to start a competing business or write a book about relocating to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Each tour guest must agree to retain said information as confidential and not disclose the same to any third party.
